Remember that Janet Jackson song…’What have you done for me lately?’ Ba ba ba bom bom….
Well at Webvantix we hear some pretty funny responses when we discuss new websites with some prospects:
- We don’t have a website, but we never get any business from the Internet anyway (really, we’ve heard this more than once)
- We have an IT guy who handles our e-mail who has been working on it for three years.
- I can get a great website for $400.
We don’t advertise
We have too much business already
I already know all my customers
And my new all time favorite
- I have a friend who has a website and he doesn’t get any business from it.
So, to address these questions, I’ll try to put forth some things the business owner can ask of their website. Specifically:
How many prospects have contacted your business because of your website?
Have you received contacts through your Social Media Marketing (SMM), that have led them back to your site, and therefore to you?
Does your site, when landed on my a visitor contain more than one “Call to Action” such as a “Request for Proposal” on key landing pages or quality information that can be downloaded, like a White paper? Or have you just placed the ubiquitous “Contact Us” page at the end of your site?
Is your site up to Code–literally? Have you picked the low hanging SEO fruit such as Title Tags to help Google index and therefore notice you?
Finally, and perhaps most important, take a look at your competition’s website, and honestly ask yourself “how do we compare?” If your objective answer is “not well,” then perhaps that’s why you’re not getting the leads you want.
