Facebook Confirms Site Problems

September 21st, 2009

503165914_a680a56c77Facebook confirmed Monday what some users have been noticing for the past few days: The site is having problems.

The issues have included disappearing content, difficulties logging on, being unable to view profiles, and error messages when posting content.

“We are working to resolve these issues as soon as possible,” Facebook said in a brief message at its Help Center.

It didn’t disclose the cause of the problems.

Last week Facebook said its membership had passed 300 million, and that the company became cash-flow positive during the last quarter, something it hadn’t expected to achieve until next year.

As its user base continues to grow, Facebook faces “fun and important challenges” like making its site perform faster and more efficiently, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post.

Rose, try clearing your browser’s cache and refreshing, then log in again–you should be good to go. Thanks for the post. Preston Ehrler

For a week i couldn’t log on- I kept getting a message about ’site maitenence’. The last couple days i have gotten on, but there is a NEW problem-
I can’t access the walls on at least 3/4 of my friends’s Facebook accounts. Normally I’d post comments on stuff they’d put on their walls- but now when I click on most of my friends, there is a picture of a ‘lock’ and it says that person shres info only with friends- But they ARE my friends!! Someone told me the only way to fix this is to delete them as a friend, and ask them to be friends again- Please tell me therer is another way…

I haven’t been able to log in for about 3 weeks…on the rare occasion I do get in, I have no friends, can’t look at profiles and cannot post.
This would be a perfect time for a facebook competitor to step on up! I know I am not the only one ready to move! FB was absolutely wonderful, but three weeks? Come on!

Dorothy, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say…what exactly are you having trouble with logging on or changing your password?

I can receive Facebook IMs, but can’t send them. An error message appears and says Ooops…there’s a problem and we’re trying to resolve. Why can I receive and not send?

Check to see if there is a yellow triangle in the lower left corner of your browser in FB, if there is, click on it and it should tell you the problem. Most likely it’s FB and NOT you. I would also attempt this in another browser and see if you still have the problem. Hope this helps…Preston from Webvantix

Marilyn, I suggest you ‘clear your cache’ and refresh your browser. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>Delete. After doing this try to login–you should be good to go! Preston Ehrler, Webvantix
